Exciting News from Barbara Swartz, Lady Hawk Farm: === Just wanted you to know that we just had the keuring for the FHS/FPZV on Monday and my Wander colt, ELI, was nominated for stallion approval and to go for the Stallion Performance Test in January. Also, my Wander mare, Zeanna, was made a ster mare, after she did a ridden performance test for the judges. so... Congratulations to Wander for making such successful offspring..... === Barabara goes on to talk about Wander's first son, Navarre: As breeders of Friesians suitable for dressage, Lady Hawk Farm was looking for a stallion whose movement was similar to the warmblood, big walk, floaty trot and lots of suspension, very athletic. In 1997, a friend of ours had come back from California after attending a Friesian stallion exhibition and couldn’t stop raving about this newly approved stallion, Wander, who moved just like a warmblood. She was so impressed that I decided to breed my mare to him that year. In 1998, we were honored to have Wander’s first offspring, a colt we named Navarre of Lady Hawk Farm. We started to show him in-hand as a yearling and the judges really liked him. He had good conformation, a nice big walk with lots of swing and a long reaching trot. At Dressage at Devon that year he placed 8th in the open yearling colt class with over 30 warmblood entries. Since then he has gone on to become the most successful Friesian Mature Stallion shown in-hand in the Open Sport Horse Division. He qualified in 2 different Open Sport Horse Breed shows last year for the USDF/Cosequin East Coast Breeder’s Championship for Mature Stallions that was held at Devon. He was Reserve Champion Mature Stallion at Devon, Reserve Champion Mature Stallion for the USDF/Cosequin Breeder’s Class, Reserve Champion of the Suitability for Dressage Class for 6 year olds and American Warmblood Society Grand Champion of Dressage at Devon. Because of his impressive record in the Sport Horse Breeding Division, the American Warmblood Society has made him an approved breeding stallion in their registry. I think his success is due to his great conformation and the huge Wander walk and freedom of movement of his father. In all these open classes he is competing mainly against warmbloods. In October, we presented our Wander colt, Elijah, a 4 year old stallion, to the FPZV/FHS for breeding stallion approval and he was selected to go for the stallion performance test next year. He scored high on his walk and trot and they loved his canter! We also presented a Wander mare for star and she was approved. Also in October, our stallions, Eli and Navarre, competed in the 23rd Annual Colonel Bengt Ljungquist Memorial Dressage Championships at the New Jersey Horse Park Navarre came in 3rd Place in the First Level Division with 23 horses in the class AND our Eli was Champion of the Training Level Division with at least 25 in the class. So, thank you Wander, for helping to make such talented and athletic children.
