The last day of judging
in the West Coast was held at Tul's farm and it was a fun, relaxed day.
Babies received their preemies and mares and geldings were made stars.
Several stallions were considered as breeding prospects, although none
were accepted.
As usual, the last horses seen at the judging are the approved breeding stallions. For the past
two years, since the stallions in Southern California are no longer presented during the LA County
Fair, we have brought Wander to the Tuls to be presented for his annual recertification and preemie.
Both years, he was handled by the popular and talented Rob DeBruin from the Netherlands. Both years,
Wander presented himself with style and presence. Consistent with every year since his approval, Wander
received his first preemie with compliments from the judges. This year, the comments included their
appreciation of his compact conformation and especially his shorter back. They also remarked as to the
length and quality of his mane and tail, calling it "luxurious." They were particularly impressed since
neither Barteld nor Djurre are known for producing "hair."
As the Tuls are truly moving to Idaho, we are all curious about where we will show our horses
next year, but if it is consistent with past experiences, whoever is the host will be gracious and
generous with their time and their home.
Those of you who can read the Phryso, can see the comments made by the jury as they described their
trip to the West Coast in the December issue.
