Checkerboard Farms is the home of exceptional breeding stallions, including the Friesian stallion Wander 352, and Andalusian stallion Astuto.

We ship fresh cooled and frozen semen and pride ourselves on our willingness to meet our customer's breeding schedule. We want the same outcome our customers want: a mare impregnated in a timely and successful way, then producing a top quality, healthy foal.

Our Stallions

Wander 352

  Get More Details

Wander 352 is a FPS-approved Friesian stallion. There are less than 20 such stallions in North America, and less than 100 in the world. Wander is known for his temperament, beauty, and top quality offspring. A regal and impressive stallion, Wander has been included in movies and calendars. More importantly, a high percentage of his foals have done quite well at their Friesian inspections ("keurings"); many exhibit his trademark modern lines and beautiful floating movement. Wander's semen has a high motility rate and retains its fertility qualities when shipped cooled or frozen.

Astuto

  Get More Details

Born in 1990, Astuto was discovered in a cow pasture in Holland! He is the newest addition to Checkerboard Farms' breeding program. He is silver white, pure Spanish, approved by the Spanish studbook and a fairy-tale magical horse. He is from Terry lines and has the sweetest of temperaments. His movement is very correct and beautiful and he has "the look." Astuto produced two lovely purebred Andalusian fillies and a half Andalusian colt (Arab) in 2003. We are looking for another half-Andalusian and a purebred for 2004.

Note: Astuto, and fellow Foundation sires Tristan and Bolero, will be standing at Checkerboard Farms during breeding seasons to pure and part-bred mares. Half-Andalusians do have a place in our registry as well as competitive classes at sanctioned Andalusian shows.
